Police, security forces recover 11 grenades, 11 UBGL and other explosive material in Baramulla

Police on Thursday claimed to have recovered huge explosive material in Zandfaran area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. A senior police officer told GNS that a joint team of Police, army, SSB and CRPF during searches in Zandfaran area recovered huge explosive material. The police officer while giving details said that 11 hand Grenades 11 UBGL, a crude grenade and other explosive material was recovered. Further details regarding this operation will be shared shortly, the officer added. (GNS)

Militants hurl grenade at security forces in Shopian

Militants lobbed grenade on security forces in Keegam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian on Thursday. A senior police officer told GNS that militants lobbed grenade on CRPF vehicle, however, grenade missed the intended target and exploded on roadside. In this incident, there was no loss of life or injury reported. Meanwhile whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.(GNS)

Local Women Protest against Hijab ban outside Indian Embassy in Kuwait City

Four days after a massive protest in Kuwait's Irada Square, Scores of Muslim women Wednesday staged a protest outside the Indian embassy in Kuwait against the Hijab ban in Karnataka. Holding placards and sloganeering against the ban, the female protesters demanded that the ban be rolled back and the harassment of Muslims be stopped immediately in India. "It is our choice whether to wear Hijab or not. Nobody should be stopped from exercising their right," a protester said. She demanded that the majority community should respect the beliefs of the minorities. Muslim students have been denied entry into various educational institutes in India. Many female students were also forced to take off their hijab before entering educational institutions.

State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Thursday quizzed Ameer (president) of Jammat-e-Islami and six other members of the banned association for eight hours. “Today SIA had summoned about more than half a dozen persons associated with the proscribed JeI and were interviewed for more than eight hours regarding various unlawful activities,” SIA said in a statement to GNS. “Besides foreign funding and foreign operations of JeI they were questioned about activities of Jamaat-e-Islami in and out of J&K,” it said, adding, “Questioning included properties of JeI having direct or indirect links with (militant) funding. Small fish at Manasbal lake die due to low water level, pollution caused by Sewage

Basit Shah Large number of small fish have been found dead in Manasbal lake, Ganderbal, causing significant damage to the Department of Fisheries and those involved in the business. An official from the Fisheries Department told The Kashmiriyat that dropping down of water level to two and a half feet in the Manasbal Lake is the reason that the fish were dying. He also said that the Manasbal Development Authority was constructing a park at Nani Nara, for which the water level was being lowered by opening the lake gate. Sikh body opposes Delimitation proposal, Demands reservation in Jammu Kashmir assembly

Expressing its opposition to the draft proposal of the Delimitation Commission, the All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee on Thursday demanded that at least eight seats should be reserved in Jammu Kashmir assembly for the Sikh community. “If 16 seats can be reserved for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Jammu Kashmir assembly, why no seat can be reserved for the Sikhs of the Union Territory?” APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said in a statement here. Army trooper shoots himself dead in Jammu

An army soldier ended his life by shooting himself to death using his service rifle in Nagrota area of the Jammu region on Thursday. Police sources said that an army soldier affiliated with 60 Rashtriya Rifles allegedly shot himself to death at the place of his posting. Jet fuel prices hiked again, Air travel likely to get costlier

On February 16 the aviation turbine fuel (ATF) hiked prices for the second time in February. In the national capital, the price of jet fuel was raised to Rs 90,519.79 per kilolitre from Rs 86,038.16 per kilolitre. In the other metro cities of Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, the price was increased to Rs 94,888.70, Rs 88,987.20 and Rs 93,371.18 per kilolitre, respectively. The hike is expected to impact aviation companies' finances that are under huge stress amid high debt. Fuel retailers revise jet fuel prices on a fortnightly basis. At present, fuel based expenses account for over 30 percent of the overall operating cost of an airline.
