Thirteen women and children, all girls, died after falling into a well while performing a marriage ritual in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, police said on Thursday. The incident, in which at least 10 people were also injured, took place at Naurangiya Tola village when an iron grille, they were sitting on, broke, they said. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the incident. On Wednesday night, the pre-wedding ritual of "haldi" was being performed. Woman raped in Jammu, accused absconding

A woman was allegedly raped in Jammu and Kashmir's Jammu city by a 32-year-old man from Chhattisgarh early this week. Police sources said a 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Monday when she was alone in a rented accommodation in the Rehari old city area. "Her parents were out for work when the accused, identified as Mohan Singh, a car washer from Chattisgarh, who lived in the same locality, forced his entry and raped the victim. Police have registered a case after unknown assailants attacked a shopkeeper with a sharp-edged weapon in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on late Wednesday night. The incident occurred between Zogipora and Khandipora village of Khag area of Budgam. Police sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that prima facie it seems that assailants attached the shopkeeper to loot cash-filled bag from him.
