A pregnant lady was among three persons injured in a road mishap in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Wednesday. Reports reaching GNS said that an Alto car bearing registration number JK09A-5332 skidded off the road at Lolab bypass and fell into a gorge, resulting in injuries to three persons. The injured trio was evacuated from the site and taken to Sub-district hospital Kupwara for treatment from where they were referred to a Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment. ‘655 police encounter killings in the last five years’: Union Home Ministry

A total of 655 police “encounter” killings have taken place in the country in the last five years with Chhattisgarh reporting the highest number of such cases with 191 cases, Union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai has said. According to the Union home ministry, in the period between January 1, 2017 and January 31, 2022, 117 such incidents were reported from Uttar Pradesh, followed by 50 in Assam, 49 in Jharkhand, 36 in Odisha, 35 in Jammu and Kashmir, and 26 in Maharashtra. Traffic police Srinagar on Wednesday issued a traffic advisory for the people coming to Jehangir Chowk in view of upgradation of road from Naaz Crossing till Jehangir Chowk. In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a spokesperson said that ERA will start work on upgradation of the road from Naaz crossing till Jehangir chowk from today, which is expected to take few weeks for completion. "Traffic coming from Iqbal park towards Jehangir chowk will be diverted via Magarmal bagh crossing-Magarmal Bagh-Reck Chowk.
