Shopian Encounter: Militant killed in ongoing gunfight

An unidentified militant has been killed in an ongoing operation in Kilbal area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday. A senior police while confirming to GNS said that a militant whose identity is yet to be ascertained was killed in an ongoing encounter. Earlier, a joint team of Police, army’s 34 and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on the input generated by JK Police in the area. As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the target spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering off a gunfight.(GNS)

None of the 217 candidates who appeared for the written examination for direct recruitment of District Judges to Jammu Kashmir higher judicial service qualified, Bar and Bench reported. A total of 217 candidates had appeared in the written examination but none secured the qualifying marks of 96 for the general category and 80 for the reserved category. Rains lashed plains of Srinagar while most places including Gulmarg received snowfall in Kashmir Valley, officials said on Saturday. Driver injured after Truck plunges into deep gorge on Jmu-Sgr NHW

A driver sustained injuries after the truck he was driving in skidded off the road and fell into the deep gorge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Shalgadi Chamelwas area on Saturday morning. Reports reaching to GNS said that a truck bearing registration number HR38U 4552, was on its way from Jammu towards Srinagar, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into deep gorge. They said, soon after getting information about the incident, a team of locals alongside NGO Banihal volunteers & police rescued the driver and subsequently shifted him to SDH Banihal for treatment.
