Amid forecast for widespread moderate rain and snow on weekend, night temperature recorded an increase in J&K, except Gulmarg and Pahalgam, on Friday. A meteorological department official here said that Srinagar, the summer capital of the J&K, recorded a low of 2.8°C against last night’s 2.2°C. Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 7.5°C against minus 5.0°C on previous night, he said. The temperature was 2.7°C above normal for this time of the year in the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Amid the steep surge in positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the hospitals are facing staff shortage as hundreds of staff members have tested positive for Covid-19 since the third wave has begun. An official from Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar told the local news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that around 800 doctors and paramedics of GMC and its associated hospitals were tested positive for Covid-19 and most of them were tested positive in the last one week. Two Kashmiri Pandit youth have been arrested on charges of carrying charas in the vehicle they were traveling in Srinagar. Police sources said that the duo was arrested during checking on the bypass near Lasjan. They said that a police party stopped an Alto (JK02BP/6183) with two youth on board. When the vehicle was checked, 75 grams of charas was recovered from it. Police seized the vehicle and arrested both the accused who have been identified as Pineet Razdan and Vinay Sharma, presently residing at Muthi Jammu. Jammu Kashmir reported a major spike as nearly 6000 persons tested positive for covid-19 in the last 24 hours, while seven deaths have been reported across the region, officials said on Wednesday. An official speaking to The Kashmiriyat confirmed that 5996 cases were reported in the region in last 24 hours- 1920 of these fresh cases were reported from the Jammu division and 4072 from Kashmir. 1177 patients recovered in Jammu Kashmir on Wednesday- 716 from Jammu Division and 461 from Kashmir Division.
