The Editors Guild of India on Tuesday said it was deeply anguished with the shutting down of the Kashmir Press Club (KPC) in Jammu and Kashmir, a region that has seen the “worst kind of state heavy handedness against any independent media''. Police arrests youth on allegation of providing info to militants in Poonch

Police on Tuesday arrested a youth on allegations of providing information to militants about security force's establishments and sharing connected material through social media. “On specific inputs, police along with other security forces apprehend one Anjum Mehmood son of Ghulam Moi Din of Baila tehsil Mandi,” a police official told GNS. The official claimed that the youth was connected with militants through social media platforms and was providing information to militants about security force's establishments and sharing related material. A day after registering a dip in fresh Covid-19 infections, Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday saw significant rise in new cases with 4651 confirmed in last 24 hours while three persons succumbed to the virus during the time, officials said. They said 1546 of the fresh cases were confirmed from Jammu Division and 3105 from Kashmir valley, taking the overall tally to 366851. After ten days of continuous daily rise, J&K had seen a dip in daily cases on Monday with 2827 while 3499 infections were reported on Sunday. Authorities have ordered closure of Block Office Uri on Tuesday after two employees tested positive for covid-19. “In order to check the spread of infection in office, the office of BDO Uri shall remain closed for two days (January 19 and 20),” reads an order by BDO Uri. “Meanwhile all the employees of block Uri are hereby directed to go for COVID-19 test,” the order, a copy of which lies with GNS, reads, adding, “Furthermore the official work of block shall be carried from home via online mode for these two days.” The employees have been asked to remain available to public on phone call. Militants on Tuesday triggered off a low-intensity improvised explosive device at Ziyarat Qaimoh-Kader Road, the area falling between Yaripora and Qaimooh in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, officials said.
