At least 50 sheep and goats perished after a cattle shed collapsed amid recent heavy rains in Jomala Potha of Rajouri district. Official sources told GNS that cattle shed belonged to one Mohammad Shafi (Bakarwal) and as soon as information was received, a police party rushed to the spot. SHO Rajouri Fareed Ahmed confirmed to GNS collapsing of the cattle shed and subsequent death of the large number of sheep and goats inside it. (GNS)

Nocturnal encounter breaks out in Kashmir’s Budgam

An encounter has broken out between militants and government forces in the Zolwa Kralpora area of Chadoora in Central Kashmir's Budgam district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that 53 RR of the Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police on Thursday evening launched a joint launched cordon and search operation in the Chadoora area of Budgam. During the cordon the militants opened fire on the forces, triggering an encounter. He said that two militants are believed to be trapped inside and intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on. Locals meanwhile said that a heavy contingent of forces has reached the area and have installed lights to not give a chance to militants to escape from the spot using darkness. J&K reports 349 fresh covid-19 cases, 3 deaths;

For the second consecutive in a row, Jammu and Kashmir recorded higher number of cases with 349 of them confirmed in the last 24 hours along with three deaths due to the virus, officials said on Thursday. 202 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu division and 147 from Kashmir, taking the overall tally to 342768. There were three deaths reported due to the virus, two from Jammu and one from Kashmir, during the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4533 persons—2201 in Jammu and 2332 in Kashmir—have died due to the virus, they said.
