A CRPF personnel on Monday shot himself dead with his service rifle at a camp in Lethpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, official sources said. They said that the constable of the paramilitary force identified as Bupinder Singh of Bharatpur Rajasthan ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle at 185 bataliion Camp Lethpora. He died on the spot, they said. A police official told GNS that the proceedings have been launched into the incident. It was not immediately known what made the constable take the extreme step. A 29-year-old policeman was shot dead by the unidentified gunmen on Sunday evening in Batamaloo area of Srinagar. Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a policeman identified as Tauseef Ahmad was fired upon by the unidentified gunmen in SD Colony area of Batamaloo. Suspected Militants hurled a grenade towards a security forces party in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said. No loss of life or injury has been reported so far in the incident. "At 6:25 pm, Militants hurled a grenade upon 18 Bn CRPF party at Nehama chowk in district Kulgam which exploded on the roadside," a police official said. Further details were awaited.–(PTI)

Meer Irfan A Suspected Militant was found in the Harmain area of South Kashmir's Shopian district. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that a Lashker-e-Toiba/TRF Militant identified as Sahil Bashir Lone of Harmain was critically injured with a bullet wound in Hermain area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday. The Locals spotted him and rushed him to district hospital, they said. The cause of the injuries has not been ascertained as of yet. Police immediately reached the hospital and placed Sahil under arrest as he is a C - category Militant, per the officials. They said Sahil had joined militant ranks on October 12 this year.

Dasniwhwar Hameed A teenager died of a cardiac arrest in Frisal area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday morning. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that Nasir Hussain Mir (16), son of Mohammed Hussain Mir, a resident of Kujjar area in Kulgam fell unconscious at his home on Sunday morning. Nasir was shifted to a nearby hospital in an unconscious condition where the declared him brought dead. Nasir was a student of class 9th.  

At least five additional CRPF companies comprising over 500 men have arrived in Srinagar from South and north Kashmir parts with officials stating the additional forces have been brought in as part of “international rationalisation.” However, what has triggered a debate is that at some places in Srinagar, the additional CRPF men have been lodged in marriage halls located in civilian areas. A CRPF official said that they are in Kashmir to assist J&K police and they don’t go to any place unless they are sought. “It is the J&K administration and the police that sends requisition to the Ministry of Home Affairs after which fresh deployment of CRPF men is made,” the official said. On Sunday, officials said that the Jammu Kashmir Police has moved the home department for granting sanction for prosecution against nine people in a case related to "selling of MBBS seats in Pakistan to Kashmiri students" and using the money "to support and fund terrorism," as per a report by PTI. Reportedly the nine accused also include a leader of a Hurriyat constituent and an advocate from South Kashmir. The PTI report suggests that the case was registered by the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), a branch of the police's CID, in July last year after reliable sources informed them that several people, including some Hurriyat leaders, "were hand in glove with some educational consultancies and were selling Pakistan-based MBBS seats and seats in other professional courses in many c...
