The weatherman on Wednesday issued an advisory regarding widespread rain and snow, warning about possibility of temporary disruption of air and surface traffic as well as damage to horticultural crops in Jammu and Kashmir from evening of 22nd to 24 October. “An active Western Disturbance will most likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from 22nd October (evening) to 24th October with peak activity on 23rd October,” reads an advisory sent to divisional commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu respectively by Mukhtar Ahmad (Director/LACD MeT department) here. “Under the influence of above system, widespread moderate rain/snow is expected in Jammu. Night temperature continue to fall across Kashmir Valley with the world famous skiing resort of Gulmarg recording below normal by minus 1.4°C, officials said on Tuesday. Srinagar recorded minimum temperature of 6.3°C against 7.7°C on previous night, an official of the local MeT office here told GNS. Even though temperature is slight above normal for this time of the year, the fall is by more than four degrees than recorded only couple of days ago. One Among 2 Militants Killed In Shopian Was Involved In UP Carpenter’s Killing: IGP

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Wednesday said that one of the two “militants” killed in Shopian gunfight was involved in the killing of a carpenter, Sageer Ahmad of UP, recently. Sageer, a resident of Sarai Hisamuddin in Saharanpur in UP, was killed by the gunmen last weekend at Litter Pulwama. “One of the killed (militants) has been identified as Adil Ahmad Wani, active since 7/2020. He was involved in killing of one poor labourer at Litter Pulwama,” the IGP said in a tweet as per GNS. So far, he said, 15 militants have been killed in two weeks. Earlier, police said two militants were killed in the gunfight with police, army, and CRPF in Cheerbagh Dragad area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. (GNS)

Encounter has started between militants and government forces in Cheerbagh Dragad area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday. Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Cheerbagh Dragad village. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
