Kashmiri Pandits Peacefully Perform Ramnavmi Puja in Srinagar

  After a delay amid tension, Kashmiri Pandits on Wednesday peacefully performed Ramnavmi puja at Durga Nath temple in Sonwar area of Srinagar. The Manager of the temple, Makhan Lal Koul said that due to the untoward situation in the city for the past two weeks the administration didn't allow the puja earlier. "The puja was supposed to be conducted on 12 October as per the calendar but due to the circumstances, the administration didn't allow it earlier," Koul said. He said that though the puja took place today, presence of devotees are less as compared to the previous year. "Despite all odds, we are happy that the puja has finally taken place," he said. Journalists Salman Shah and Suhail Dar Detained in Anantnag for Questioning

  Salman Shah, the editor of The Kashmiriyat's newspaper Kashmir First has been detained in Anantnag, South Kashmir on Tuesday night. Imran Shah, his brother spoke to The Kashmiriyat and said that Salman has been held at a police station in Anantnag, where the Police has said that the journalist has been detained for questioning. "We do not know what sort of a questioning is this that takes the officials three night to initiate questioning," he said, adding, "Salman has said that he has been told nothing as of yet." The home ministry has extended the area of 50 km-belt in West Bengal, Panjab and Assam, running along the country’s borders, from 15 km earlier, under jurisdiction of Border Security Force (BSF) where its officers have powers of arrest, search and seizure, on par with their counterparts in police. The border area under BSF in Gujarat has reduced to 50km which was earlier 80km, while the area in Rajasthan remains the same at 50km.
