UP Govt withdrew 77 Muzaffarnagar Riot Cases without providing reasons, SC Told

The Supreme Court was told on Tuesday that the Uttar Pradesh government has withdrawn 77 cases pertaining to the Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013, including for offences entailing a life sentence, without giving any reasons. A bench of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Surya Kant is scheduled to hear a plea filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyay seeking speedy disposal of cases against lawmakers. Amicus curiae Senior Advocate Vijay Hansaria, in his report filed through advocate Sneha Kalita, said that the state government has said that a total of 510 cases pertaining to the Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013 were registered in five districts of the Meerut Zone against 6,869 accused. BSF Trooper, On Leave, Dies After Hit By Shooting Stone Along Mughal Road

A Border Security Forces’ trooper has died after being hit by a shooting stone near Peer Ki Gali along Mughal Road, officials on Wednesday afternoon said. They said that the constable Nisar Hussein son of Habib Ullah, a resident of Dhanore Jarallan in Rajouri district was cutting wood when hit by a shooting stone at Dhoke in the Peer Panchal area.
