Locals Protest as Electricity Disappears During Sehri and Iftaar Time in Pulwama

The power outages during the hours of sehri, iftar and Taraweeh in the ongoing holy month of Ramadan, sparked a protest during Sehri time in Zaasu village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The inhabitants of the village hit to roads and blocked it till a police party rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters. The protesters alleged that they have been deprived of electricity even in the holy month of Ramadhan. “Our village never gets lit up during sehri, iftar and Taraweeh times. Administration Considering Weekly Lockdown in Jammu Kashmir as Covid Cases Continue to Rise

The administration is seriously considering imposition of weekend lockdown in some districts of Jammu Kashmir which are worst hit by COVID cases. Highly placed sources said that the administration doesn't want economic activity to be disrupted in Jammu Kashmir by imposing lockdown due to massive surge in COVID cases. In view of this, it was considering the option of imposing weekend lockdown in some districts as a part of COVID control measures. The weekend lockdown will help in crowd control, sources said. The collleges and Universities across Jammu Kashmir have been ordered to remain shut till the 15th day of May amid the growing covid 19 cases in the region. In a tweet, the office of the Lieutenant Governor Jammu Kashmir, Manoj Sinha said that all colleges and universities in Jammu Kashmir will be shut till 15 of May. "All Universities & Colleges in J&K shall remain closed for imparting on-campus/ in-person education to the students till 15.05.2021,except for the courses/programs that require physical presence of students on account of laboratory / research / thesis work and internship etc," office of the LG J&K tweeted.
