Massive Fire in Bangladesh Damages Thousands of Rohingya Camps

On Monday, a massive fire swept over thousands of Rohingya refugee camps in Balukhali in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, destroying homes and putting the lives of tens of thousands of refugees in danger. On Tuesday, an official in charge of the Kutupalong refugee camp said that the fire destroyed at least 3,000 shelters as it spread quickly through the refugee camp. On late Monday, the UN refugee agency UNHCR said that fire services, Bangladesh’s Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner and rescue and response teams were present at the spot, trying to control the further spread of fire in the camp. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that the rooftop of the Government Middle school building in the Nowshehra area of Anantnag's Khiram collapsed during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday The Kashmiriyat got in touch with a teacher who was unavailable for comments over the issue. However, an official upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said all the teachers and students are safe. "Nobody has been injured during the incident,"he said.

An official said that the Maruti Car bearing regd no PB35L-3419 roll down near Pul Doda, resulting in on-spot death to the driver of the vehicle. The district administration has sought the details of day-to-day infected cases from the health department. For the past several months, there are no containment zones anywhere in Jammu Kashmir. The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that the total cover of forest land of Jammu Kashmir has decreased by 420 Sq Kms between the year 2015 to 2019. The Ministry shared the information in Rajya Sabha in response to the question raised that includes the details of the increase/ decrease in forest cover during the last 3 years, deforestation programs, and funds utilized during the past year. In a written response, in Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State (MoS) of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change said that from the total forest land of 624 Sq Kms, the cover has reduced by 410 Sq Kms while the percentage of total tree cover stands at 3.57 only.
