On Wednesday, the Information and broadcasting ministry wrote to chief secretaries of states and administrators of union territories, clarifying them that powers under Part III of the recently framed Information Technology Rules, 2021, have not been delegated to state governments, district magistrates, and police commissioners and news agency. The ministry’s response came after a DM in Manipur withdrew a notice issued by him to a talk show under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, which were notified on February 25.
