Shabir Khan The body of a minor, who allegedly committed suicide by jumping into river jehlum in north Kashmir’s Sopore area last week, was retrieved from Jehlum on Wednesday morning. Locals told The Kashmiriyat a 14-year-old boy Shahid Nazir Changal, son of Nazir Ahmad Changal of Ahad Bab crossing in Sopore jumped into the river from Sopore bypass bridge on 21 October. The joint team of Sopore Police, SDRF, Marco's, Army and local boat men continued the search operation for the past one week and retrieved the body from Jhelum river this morning A Police official said that the body was taken to the hospital for legal formalities.

2 Militants Killed During Encounter in Budgam, Kashmir

Two Militants have been killed during a gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Machowa area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday evening. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a joint team of Army’s 50 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area. The official said that, as the joint team of forces progressed towards the suspected identified spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated triggering an encounter. During the gunfight, two Militants have been killed, who are yet to be identified.

ACB Arrested SHO, Cop Red Handed While Accepting Bribe In Budgam

The Anti Corruption Bureau on Tuesday arrested Station House Officer and Head Constable of the police station Khag in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, while caught accepting bribe. Official sources said that on the basis of a complaint ACB team headed by DySP Rameez Ahmad raided the police station Khag and caught SHO and cop red handed while accepting the bribe. An official while confirming the arrest of the duo said that both were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe of rupees 4000. He identified the arrested SHO as Gowhar Ahmad (SI) and Head Constable as Nazir Ahmad. Cow slaughter act is being misused against innocent persons: Allahabad HC

On Monday, the Allahabad High Court expressing its concern towards the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act 1955 said that law was being misused against innocent persons.  The court said, “Whenever any meat is recovered, it is normally shown as cow meat (beef) without getting it examined or analyzed by the Forensic Laboratory. In most of the cases, meat is not sent for analysis. Accused persons continue in jail for an offence that may not have been committed at all and which is triable by Magistrate Ist Class, having maximum sentence up to 7 years."  There has been several incidents when the meat recovered by authorities is presumed to be beef without any analysis or confirmation.
