Jammu- Protests Continue Against Starnded Kashmir Passengers for Refusing to Chant “Vande Mataram”

February 12 Protests have continued for the second consecutive day in Jammu against stranded Kashmir passengers for allegedly refusing to shout vande Mataram, India's National song. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of Jammu locals gathered outside commerce college where stranded Kashmiri passengers had been asked to gather for being airlifted. However scores of locals including students gathered outside the venue shouting slogans against them. South Kashmir Militant Killed in Pulwama Encounter

February 12 One Militant has been killed in an encounter that raged in ratnipora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District on Tuesday morning. The body of the Militant killed in encounter has been recovered along with a rifle. He has been identified as Hilal Ahmed Rather son of Ghulam Mohammed Rather, a resident of Begumbagh in Kakpora area of Pulwama. The encounter was jointly conducted by 50 RR, 182 BN of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police. The operation has ended amid clashes in the area. Hilal had joined Militancy in February last year and was associated with Hizb ul Mujahideen.

Pulwama Encounter Over- 1 Militant Killed, 2 Escape, 2 Army Men Also killed

February 12 One Militant and two Government Force peronnel have been killed in the encounter in Pulwama. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that Militants opened fire on a joint party of 50 RR, 182 Battalion of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police who were conducting a search operation in the area. Following inputs about Militant presence in the area  the Forces had launched the CASO. At around, 6 am, the Militants opened fire on Forces, who retailed, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing gun battle, two troopers identified as Sepoy Baljeet Singh and Naik Saneed were killed, while Havaldar Chanderpal was injured. One Militant was also killed in the gunfight. February 12 A cordon and search operation (CASO) has been launched by Government Forces in Trenz area of South Kashmir's Shopian District Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday morning, 44 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a search operation in Trenz area in South Kashmir's Shopian District. Following inputs about Militant movement in the area, the forces blocked all the entry and exit points of the area.   A door to door search operation had been launched when this report was filed.

Kashmir Highway Remains Shut for The Seventh Consecutive Day

February 12 The Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed on seven consecutive day today, reports said. They said that even as the road remained blocked due to accumulated debris and intermittent shooting stones at T2, Maroog and Panthyal in Ramban- Banihal axis, the restoration work is going on. Meanwhile, authorities had claimed to take a decision on opening of the road on Tuesday morning.

Kashmir’s Grand Mufti, Bashir ud Din Passes Away in Srinagar

February 12 The grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Bashir ud Din passed away after a brief illness in Srinagar's Sher e Kashmir institute of Medical Sciences. Bashir ud Din, who was a staunch supporter of Kashmir's Freedom struggle fell ill the last week and was immediately referred to the SKIMS Hospital. A resident of Soura in Srinagar, Mufti Bashir spent the last days of his life in the hospital and kept helping the poor people even from the hospital bed. A family member confirming the death said, "My Great Uncle, the Grand Mufti of Kashmir, has just passed away. He was an incredible voice for the people of Kashmir and spent his life fighting for Kashmiri independence". The funeral prayers of Grand Mufti will be held at 3:30 pm at Khanqah e Moula in Srinagar.
