Another Spell of Snowfall Likely to Start from 12 February Evening

February 11 Predicting another wet spell over the valley weatherman on Monday said that Western Disturbance will most likely effect the state from Feb 12 to 15. Meteorological departments said that on 12th evening to 15th noon, a fresh western disturbance will most likely affect JK. “The system will move from north west to south east and again pirpanjal range from Gulmarg to Bhaderwah will have moderate to heavy rain snow on February 13-14,” forecaster said. Srinagar recorded -0.4 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund and Kokernag recorded minus 2.6 degrees Celsius and minus 3.1 degrees Celsius respectively and Kupwara recorded -3.9 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg had -7.0 degrees Celsius and Pahalgam recorded -2.6 degrees Celsius.

Garment Shop Gutted in a Fire Incident in Tangmarg

February 11 Sajad Hameed A garments shop was gutted in a fire incident in Chandilora area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday. The shop, Life Style ready made garments shop, owned by Mohd Ashraf Tali R/o Zeran Tangmarg, was gutted after fire broke out in the shop at around 10:30pm last night. Locals rushed to the shop and to douse the flames however fire couldn’t be controlled turning the shop into ashes. The reason of fire was not immediately known.

February 11 The Kashmir valley is observing a shutdown on the hanging anniversary of JKLF founder, Maqbool Bhat. Reports fro North to South Kashmir said that restrictions have been imposed in the major townships across the valley to thwart any kind of protest. Mabqool Bhat, a champion of pro Freedom struggle was hanged inside Tihar Jail on 11 February 1984. Meanwhile the current Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik while paying tributes to Muhammad Maqbool Butt on his 35th anniversary said that he was an ideologue, a statesman, a warrior, a political leader and a diplomat who led nation of Kashmir on all fronts and sacrificed his life for the sacred cause.

CASO Launched in Shopian Area

February 11 A cordon and search operation (CASO) has been launched by Government Forces in Zainapora area of South Kashmir's Shopian District Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday morning, 44 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a search operation in Safanagri Area of Zainapora in South Kashmir's Shopian District. Following inputs about Militant movement in the area, the forces blocked all the entry and exit points of the area.   A door to door search operation had been launched when this report was filed.

PDP Member Rahim Rather Expresses Condolences With Avalanche Victim Families

February 10 The Former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Jammu Kashmir for Kokernag constituency on Sunday visited the avalanche hit areas in Kokernag. Abdul Rahim Rather, the former MLA as per a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat visited the families of people killed in the recent avalanches. Expressing condolences with the bereaved families, he expressed solidarity with them. He also visited several areas in the Kokernag belt and met the locals who appraised their issues with him. He assured the locals of full cooperation.

After Ladakh Gets Division, Kargil Protests for Being ‘Neglected’

February 10 People of Kargil on Sunday staged a massive protest on Sunday against the governor’s decision of setting up the office headquarter only at Leh, after granting Ladakh the division stature. Thousands of locals including social activists took on roads and staged a protest demonstration against the decision of not giving an equal share to the people of Kargil following the announcement from the state governor to give the separate division to the Ladakh. The locals are demanding that the office headquarters of the new ‘division’ should be at a rotational basis. Citing reasons that in summers the secretariat is functioning at Srinagar and from Kargil, it would be easier to operate. And in winters it is being shifted to Jammu, so from Leh, it is easier to stay connected. ...

Thousands Attend Funeral of 18 year old Militant in Kulgam

February 10 Amid intense sloganeering, Thousands of people thronged Quimoh area in Kulgam district of South Kashmir to attend the funeral of Parvez Ahmed (Hubaib). Eyewitnesses informed The Kashmiriyat that people from various parts of South Kashmir reached Quimoh to attend the funeral of the 18 year old slain. As soon as the body of slain reached his home, the army burst into intense pro independence and pro Pakistan slogans. 18 year old, Parvez had joined Militant ranks in July last year. A resident of Mokdampora in Quimoh, Parvez was a student of Government Higher Secondary school in Islamabad (Anantnag).

Army Organizes Free Medical Camp Under Sadbhavana in Khundru

February 10 The Indian Army on Sunday organized a medical camp at Khundru in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) district. In a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, the Army said that in an endeavor to reach out to people from far flung remote areas and provide basic medical care and advise to the most underprivileged strata of the society 127 Lt AD Regt (Comp) under aegis of 619 (l) AD Bde conducted a Medical Camp in Khundru area on Sunday. They said, Doctors from PHC, Achabal and Medical Officer worked shoulder to shoulder for the benefit of needy civil populace. Lady Doctor specially saw women at the medical camp. The camp was inaugurated by Brigadier Amit Rao, Cdr, 619 (l) AD BDE who also interacted with the locals to strengthen goodwill between the Army and Locals....

Grenade Attack in Srinagar- 7 Troopers Injured

February 10 Firdous Qadri A grenade was lobbed by unknown pwrsoms on a CRPF party near Palladium lane at Lal Chowk in Jammu  Kashmir's Srinagar district on Sunday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that three CRPF personnel, four JK police personnel and four civilians have been injured in the attack. The area has been cordoned off by the Forces.

All Slain Militants Identified, Bodies Handed Over to Families

February 10 The five slain Militants killed in Kelam encounter in Kulgam district of South Kashmir have been identified by Police. The Police identified the slain as Waseem Bashir Rather alias Zeeshan of Ashumji Kulgam, Zahid Parray of Gopal Pora, Damhal Hanjipora, Kulgam, Idrees Bhat of Arwani, Aaqib Nazir of Zangal Pora Kulgam and Parvaz Bhat (Hubaib) of Mukdampora, Quimoh, Kulgam. An Army official told The Kashmiriyat that five dead bodies were recovered from the encounter site on Sunday noon.
