In Absence of Stones, People Throw Snowballs at Forces Near Kulgam Encounter Site

February 10 Defying strict restrictions, clashes have erupted in Dangerpora area of Kelam in Kulgam district of South Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of men and women stormed onto the streets shouting pro Freedom slogans trying to march towards the encounter site. Trying to help, the trapped Militants escape, the locals threw stones of Government Forces. They said that people are also throwing snowballs at the forces as at least two feet of snow has gathered on the surface. Early Morning Encounter Rages in Kulgam Area- Live Updates

February 10 An Encounter started between militants and Government forces in Dangerpora area of Kelam in South Kashmir’s Kulgam District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 9 RR of Indian Army, 18 BN of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by Militants during a cordon and search operation in the area. Immediately the troops cordoned off the area during which the holed up Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. As per initial reports available to The Kashmiriyat three to five militants are trapped in a residential house in the area. A heavy exchange of fire was going on when this report being filed. February 09 A cordon and search operation has been launched by Government Forces in Tahab area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Saturday evening, 55 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a search operation in Naira Area of Tahab in South Kashmir's Pulwama District. Following inputs about Militant movement in the area, the forces blocked all the entry and exit points of the area.   A door to door search operation had been launched when this report was filed.

Indian Army to Induct 6000 Snipers Along LOC

February 09 The Indian Army is planning to induct 6000 sniper rifles and other modernized equipments along the Line of Control which divides Jammu Kashmir between India and Pakistan. A report published on Daily Excelsior quoting sources said that Army would be inducting about 6000 sniper rifles along LoC in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region and Baramulla and Kupwara in Kashmir during next few months. “Army has a target of purchasing around 6000 sniper rifles for the soldiers deployed all along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. February 09 Restrictions have been imposed in most of the towns in the Kashmir valley on Saturday as the valley has shut down from North to South against the hanging of Afzal Guru. Army Rescues Locals, Organizes Relief for Kund Residents in Kulgam

February  08 Kund Bowl witnessed a major spell of snowfall for the past 48 hrs which triggered avalanches during night 7/8 Feb in two villages of Gagarmandu and Antaarnad. Amidst heavy snowfall, The Army organised a relief patrol the same night and reached the affected villages. They reassured the civilians and helped the local villagers whose houses were buried under avalanche to settle their families. Around 35 houses were confirmed to be buried under the avalanche and yet another village was evacuated during the night. Jawahar Tunnel Avalanche- 7 Dead Bodies Recovered

February 08 At least seven dead bodies were recovered from the debris of an avalanche in the rescue operation at Jawahar Tunnel that was started after an avalanche hit the tunnel on Thursday evening. Stationary Shop Gutted in Pulwama Fire Incident

February 08 Skinder Gull A Stationary shop in the Panzgam area in the Pulwama district of South Kashmir was gutted in fire on Friday afternoon. Locals informed The Kashmiriyat that Stationary items worth lakhs of rupees got damaged  in the fire incident. Short-circuiting was stated to be the reason behind the incident. Owner of the shop Feroz Ahmad told The Kashmiriyat that he does not have any source of livelihood as a small short circuit has turned all his dreams into ashes. BJP Demands Land on Aligarh Muslim University Campus to Construct Land

February 08 The BJP’s youth wing has demanded land to construct a temple on the AMU campus, saying Hindu students were facing problems in performing prayers. In a letter to AMU Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor, Mukesh Singh Lodhi, the district president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), said if the university doesn’t fulfil their demand within 15 days, they would install an idol and begin constructing the temple at a suitable site.
