Dead body of a Driver Found in his Torched Vehicle in Shopian Area

December 18 The dead body of a driver was recovered from his torched vehicle at Resh Nagri area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the driver identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad Sheikh was found dead in his vehicle bearing the registration JK03B-8862. December 18 The Pulwama District of Southern part has shut down for the fourth consecutive day to mourn the Killing of three Militants and Seven civilians in the Sirnoo area of South Kashmir on Saturday. The Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Islamabad (Ananatnag) districts had shut spontaneously as the news of the killings spread in the area on Saturday. The Kashmiriyat was informed that traffic is off the roads, while business establishments are shut in the area on Tuesday for the fourth consecutive day. The Government has also suspended classwork in educational institutes while as railway services have also been suspended in South Kashmir. NO Shutdown Call Given By Hurriyat Today

December 18 The Hurriyat leadership has not given any shutdown call for Tuesday as is being circulated on Social Media platforms. Hurriyat had called for a shutdown starting from Saturday for a period of three days earlier after the killing of seven civilians in Pulwama District of South Kashmir. Complete shutdown was witnessed across the valley and Chenab valley on Sunday and Monday and parts of Kashmir valley remained shut on Saturday also.

Militants Offer Gun Salute to Slain Colleague in Karimabad

December 17 Militants on Monday night appeared in Karimabad, the native village of slain Hizb Militant and , Adnan Hizbi in Karimabad and fired shots in the air to offer gun salute to their slain colleague. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a group of  Militants appeared in the area shouting slogans in favour of Islam and Freedom at his native area in South Kashmir's Pulwama District. December 17 Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in Neva area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district against the Killing of ten people including three Militants in the Pulwama District. A Local told The Kashmiriyat that scores of protesters including women assembled near the main road of Neva and pelted stones on forces who responded to immense tear smoke shelling. A strict curfew had been imposed in Pulwama which has been lifted just now, after which clashes erupted. Seven civilians and three Militants were killed on Saturday after a gunfight raged on Saturday morning in Sirnoo area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District.

Kashmir- At least 480 People Killed in 2018, Highest in a Decade

December 17 At least 480 people have been killed in violence in Jammu Kashmir, so far in 2018 and the mayhem continues. The officials said that 2018 has been bloodiest year for the State since 2008 when over five hundred people had died in violence, The toll stood at 384 in 2017 whereas 247 people had died in 2016. in 2018, 253 militants, 97 Government Force personnel and 84 civilians have been killed so far, as per official figures, however data available to The Kashmiriyat reveals that at least 140 people have been killed in Violence related incidents. December 17 The cold wave continued across Jammu Kashmir on Monday as night temperatures remained several notches below the freezing point. A MET Department official told that the cold weather conditions are likely to continue for another four to five days with weather mostly likely to remain dry. The minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar was minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, while in both Pahalgam and Gulmarg it was minus 8.3 degrees. The Jammu city recorded 4.4 degrees Celsius, Katra 6.4, Batote 1.5, Banihal 3.5 while Bhaderwah in Chenab valley recorded minus 1.2 as the minimum temperature. The Leh district of Ladakh region recorded the season's coldest night at minus 16.1 degrees Celsius, while Kargil recorded minus 11.4 degree Celsius.  

Yasin Malik Detained in Srinagar, Tear Smoke Shelling on Peaceful Protesters

December 16 The chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammed Yasin Malik has been detained in Srinagar  after he tried to march towards Badami Bagh army base in Srinagar. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Malik who had went underground to evade arrest appeared in Gaw Kadal and led a march of scores of people, however forces deployed near Budshah bridge stopped the peaceful march. The Forces fired tear smoke shells to foil the protest and took Malik into detention near Budshah bridge in Srinagar.
