A tourist family from Uttar Pradesh alleged that their car was forcibly taken by a leader of Bhartiya Janta Party in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat Mubashir Ahmed, a resident of Uttar Pradesh said that on Sunday their car met with a minor accident in tourist resort Pahalgam, after which they were forcibly taken to Anantnag and their car was forcibly held by the BJP leader.

“On Sunday, our car collided with the car of a man which resulted in a verbal scuffle. We tried to negotiate and told the driver of the car that we are ready to compensate the losses incurred during the accident,” Mubashir said.

He added that the man from the other car got out and started hitting the tourists. “He than sat in our car and took us to housing colony in Khanabal. We initially thought he was taking us to the Police station, so we did not deny going anywhere,” said Mubashir.

He said that the man (son of BJP leader) in the car took them to the house of a man who is associated with the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). “As soon as we got into the house, Mohammed Sidiq Khan abused them verbally and forcibly held their car,” Mubashir told The Kashmiriyat.

He alleged that Sidiq forced them to stay in a hotel in Anantnag for the entire night. In the morning, they went to the local police seeking their help.

“The locals were extremely helpful. At the hotel stay and since yesterday all the people have expressed their willingness to help us. The locals helped us in every possible manner. I am extremely thankful to every Kashmiri,” Mubashir said.

Locals also tried to interrupt the physical and verbal fight that emerged after the accident and tried to rescue the family, Mubashir said.

He said that as soon as the tourist family approached the local Police, they swung into action and rescued the car. The Police also registered an FIR in this regard, a development confirmed to The Kashmiriyat by a senior Police official posted in the south Kashmir district.

“The local Police was really helpful. They helped us a lot. It was only through their help that we got ourselves out of the situation. The local DySP was extremely helpful,” Mubasir said.
