In what may be a rare incident, multiple countries around the world, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Pakistan and Kuwait, may observe Eidul Fitr on Wednesday due to the lack of crescent moon sighting on Monday.
The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee to convene in Islamabad Pakistan today to attempt to sight the Shawwal crescent, potentially paving the way for a simultaneous Eid celebration across the Muslim world.
Additionally, Australia has also confirmed that Eid will be observed on Wednesday.
The central moon-sighting body’s meeting will be held at the roof of the Federal Secretariat’s Kohsar Block in Islamabad, while zonal and district Ruet-i-Hilal committees will concurrently convene at their respective headquarters.
Chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the meeting will be attended by committee members and officials from the Meteorological Department, Suparco, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The committee has issued a statement urging citizens to provide any information regarding sightings of the moon to the relevant committees in their areas.
Maulana Azad mentioned that extensive consultations have been conducted with clerics and religious groups across the country, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to ensure inclusivity in the decision-making process
