Pakistan violates ceasefire in Jammu Kashmir: Reports

The Line of Control (LoC) witnessed renewed tension on Tuesday as the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire agreement in the Mankot sector of Poonch district, Jammu Kashmir.

According to defence sources, quoted by Indian media, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing in the early hours, targeting Indian forward posts and civilian areas with small arms and mortars.

The Indian Army responded “very effectively and in a calibrated manner,” a senior military official said, underscoring that Indian forces were prepared for any escalation.

“There was no loss of life reported on our side. Our troops retaliated with precision and ensured that the adversary was silenced,” the official added.

This marks the first recorded ceasefire violation since the intense skirmishes that took place between May 6 and May 10, during Operation Sindoor.

Although the 2021 reaffirmation of the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement had brought relative calm to the LoC, recent months have seen a worrying uptick in cross-border incidents.
