Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday accused Pakistan of deliberately targeting civilian areas in the region, following India’s missile strikes on terror infrastructure across the border.
“Pakistan has gone out of its way to target the civilian population. We are closely monitoring the situation and responding as events unfold,” Abdullah told PTI after leading a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar.
The chief minister emphasized that India’s military action was precise and restrained. “In response to the barbaric killing of 26 innocent civilians in Pahalgam, India exercised its right to act. The strikes were aimed strictly at terror bases, avoiding military or civilian targets,” he said.
The security meeting chaired by Abdullah focused on preparedness along the Line of Control (LoC) and international border areas. “We reviewed the situation and stressed the importance of protecting civilian lives, reinforcing infrastructure, and ensuring rapid response mechanisms,” he said in a post on X.
Top officials including CM’s advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir V.K. Bhiduri were present at the meeting. Senior officers from Jammu division joined via video conferencing.
The review came in the wake of Pakistan’s reported shelling of civilian areas in retaliation to India’s cross-border strikes, escalating tensions along the LoC.
