PC promises probe into 1987 election rigging, Reinstatement of Pre-2019 status

The Peoples Conference reaffirmed its commitment to restoring Article 370, Article 35A, and statehood for Jammu Kashmir in their election manifesto released by party president Sajad Gani Lone and senior leaders.

The manifesto also promises to establish a judicial commission to investigate the rigging of the 1987 elections.

The manifesto outlines the party’s dedication to reinstating Jammu and Kashmir’s pre-2019 constitutional status. “The party will support all efforts within and outside legislative forums to restore the pre-2019 constitutional position of J&K,” it states.

The PC, which had challenged the abrogation of Article 370 in the Supreme Court, affirmed its commitment to pursue the restoration of Article 370 and statehood.

The party vowed to set up a judicial commission to probe the alleged rigging of the 1987 assembly elections, which they believe has contributed to the ongoing instability in Kashmir. “We will hold accountable those responsible for what we term the Great Robbery of 1987—an event that robbed us of our rights, our young, and our collective destiny,” the manifesto reads.

Additionally, the PC promised to end the blacklisting of Kashmiris by security agencies, which currently prevents them from accessing government jobs, passports, and contracts. They also committed to addressing issues such as arbitrary property attachments, destructive demolition drives, and unwarranted terminations. The party intends to repeal the Public Safety Act (PSA) and other laws deemed draconian.

Other promises include reviving the July 13 Martyrs’ Day holiday, providing free electricity to BPL families, securing land ownership rights for poor dwellers, waiving KCC loans, fast-tracking recruitments, reviving the old pension scheme, and implementing a transfer policy for female ReT teachers. KNO
