People stock essentials for two weeks as hysteria grips Israel after provocative attacks on Iran

Word spread fast across Israel Friday morning, triggering mass hysteria. Panic buying emptied grocery shelves from Tel Aviv to Haifa. In Herzliya, one resident compared the scene to the fall of Saigon.

“Only the meanest dry goods were left,” he said, describing lines that stretched out into the street. The government’s advice to stock two weeks’ worth of supplies had clearly hit home.

As the country braced for impact, Israel launched a fresh wave of airstrikes on Iran. Loud explosions were reported near Tabriz airport in East Azerbaijan. This followed the overnight operation, codenamed Rising Lion, which targeted over 100 sites, including military bases and suspected nuclear facilities.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the strikes would continue “for as many days as it takes to remove this threat.” Defense officials described the operation as a preemptive strike against Iran’s growing capabilities.

Iran confirmed significant losses. State media reported the deaths of top commanders including IRGC head Hossein Salami and military chief Mohammad Bagheri. Prominent nuclear scientists and General Gholamali Rashid were also killed. Ali Shamkhani, senior adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, was seriously injured.

Iran has vowed to retaliate. Khamenei promised that Israel “will not go unpunished.”

Airspace across Jordan and other parts of the region remains restricted. Sirens wailed across Israeli towns. The region teeters on the edge, with fears growing of a wider war.

While Israel frames its actions as defensive, Iran calls the attack an open act of war. As the dust settles from the latest strikes, both nations seem locked in a dangerous cycle with no immediate off-ramp in sight.
