Students in Jammu Kashmir have once again voiced their anger against the Jammu Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) after Class 11 students in hard zone areas encountered out-of-syllabus questions in their Mathematics exam. This comes just two days after students in soft zones faced the same issue in their Mathematics paper.
Students in hard zones were left frustrated as they struggled with questions from topics that had been officially removed following syllabus rationalization. “We studied according to the prescribed syllabus, yet the Board keeps making the same mistakes. This isn’t just an error; it’s negligence that affects our results,” said a student.
Teachers supervising the exam confirmed that the paper included questions from the deleted syllabus. “Such mistakes put students under undue stress. The Board must ensure this does not happen again,” a senior lecturer said.
This is not an isolated incident. On February 25, Class 11 students in soft zones reported three out-of-syllabus questions in their Mathematics exam, carrying 16 marks.
Before that, Class 10 students faced similar issues in multiple subjects. The English paper contained a question from Speak Up, a poem that had been removed from the syllabus. In the Urdu exam, two options in a five-mark question were from a deleted portion. Additionally, a Social Studies multiple-choice question (MCQ) lacked a correct answer, as none of the options listed were right.
JKBOSE officials have acknowledged the repeated errors. “A committee is reviewing the mistakes, and we will ensure that students are not at a disadvantage. Grace marks will be awarded where necessary,” said JKBOSE Secretary Sudershan Kumar.
