Anantnag Police have taken control of a shop in Zirpora owned by Umer Amin Thoker.
Thoker is a suspect in the murder of Deepak Kumar, a circus worker from Udhampur.
The property seizure is related to FIR number 171/2023 and involves various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Police stated.
In a press release, Police said, on the evening of May 29, 2023, near the Amusement Park in Ashajipora, militants opened fire on a migrant laborer, resulting in a tragic loss of life.
The victim was identified as Deepak Kumar, also known as Deepu, son of Mashu, hailing from Thial-Panchayat Deot Bilaspur in Udhampur. Deepak Kumar sustained severe injuries and, regrettably, succumbed to his wounds at the Government Medical College in Anantnag.
The assailants managed to escape the scene, leaving the community in shock and despair, Police said.
In response to this horrifying incident, the local authorities promptly initiated an investigation. This led to the registration of FIR No. 171/2023 under various sections, including the Indian Arms Act, Indian Penal Code Section 302, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
As the investigation progressed, a significant breakthrough occurred with the arrest of six individuals believed to be associated with the “Kashmir Freedom Fighter” group, an offshoot of the banned terrorist organization, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM).
These arrests marked a crucial step in unraveling the conspiracy behind the attack, Police stated.
The six arrested individuals have been identified as Sehran Bashir Nadaf, son of Bashir Ahmad Nadaf, and a resident of Shirpora Deva Colony, Ubaid Nazir Laigroo, son of Nazir Ahmad Laigroo, hailing from Shirpora New Colony, Umer Amin Thoker, son of Mohd Amin, a resident of Waghama, Huzaif Shabir Bhat, son of Shabir Ahmad Bhat, residing in Wachi Shopian, Nasir Farooq Shah, son of Farooq Ahmad Shah, from Wanteng Mohalla in Bijbehara, Suveed Showkat Bhat, son of the late Showkat Ahmad Bhat, from Fatehpora.
Police, in its press release said, a store named “The Game Modification,” located in Zirpara Bijbehara, and allegedly operated by Umer Amin Thoker, was implicated in connection with the terrorist incident.
The shop has been seized under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act by the Anantnag District Police.
