Policeman who Decamped with a Rifle is the son of a Senior PDP Member

A special police officer along with an AK-47 rifle of his colleague is missing from police station Shopian of Southern Kashmir.

The SPO has been identified as Showkat ahmad sheikh son of Abdul Majeed sheikh resident of Hermain shopian.

Locals informed The Kashmiriyat that Showkat a brilliant student was recruited as an SPO during 2016 agitation.

He belongs to a well off family and his father Abdul Majeed is reportedly a senior member of People democratic party and is associated with fruit business, they said.

He has two brothers and two sisters besides parents.

Elder bother is associated with fruit business while as younger one is studying at Sanik School Mumbai. Among two sisters one is married while as one is working in social welfare department.

His Friends told The Kashmiriyat, “Showkat had completely changed since the killing of local militant Amir Malik who was killed on March 04 this year along with a militant and four civilians in a brief shoot out at Pahnoo village of Shopian district.”

Amir was pursuing PG in history at university of Kashmir before joining militant ranks.

Soon after the incident police launched a massive search operation in the area to nab the missing special police officer.

A senior Police official confirming the incident to The Kashmiriyat said  that Showkat and an AK rifle is missing at police station Shopian since today morning.

A case has been registered and further investigation is going on, the officer said. (The Kashmiriyat)
