India’s biggest private sector banks have nothing but contempt for their customers. They’ve made this absolutely clear by the way they have reacted to the enormous amount of public criticism they have received for the new fines (or service charge or whatever they call it) on cash transactions, as well as for the myriad other charges that banks keep deducting from their customers’ money.
As far as anyone from any bank has answered the criticism, it is merely to point out that the fines, charges and deductions are in keeping with the regulations. However, that’s hardly an answer because the whole point that angry customers are making is that the regulations are inadequate and unfair.

Our banking regulator, the Reserve Bank of India has failed to protect customers from the rapacious ways of the banks.
There are a lot of claims about regulations and good service and bad service and what not. However, there has always been a constant flow of charges against the Banks and their employees.
In what may seem a bizarre incident, a Customer of Jammu Kashmir Bank has claimed that the bank employees have been granting loans to their relatives on his account since 2014. The Customer also alleged that the bank employees have been withdrawing money from his account since 2014.
The Customer named Aijaz Ahmed Ganie from Bijbehara holding the account number CC 182 at Jammu Kashmir bank branch Zirpora Bijbehara has claimed that the Bank has also withdrawn money from the accounts of his other family members.
Speaking to The Kashmiriyat he alleged that money has also been withdrawn from the account numbers CD 843 belonging to his sister (Tasleema banoo), CD 881 belonging to his father (Ghulam Mohammed ganie).
Aijaz claimed that 1, 09,800 was withdrawn from his account CD 881 and the limit of another account was dragged to 4 lacs without him even seeking the extension of credit limit. “93,000 were also withdrawn from the account,” Aijaz said.
The Kashmiriyat verified the bank account numbers belong to the persons as mentioned by Aijaz Ahmed Ganie and found that Aijaz has correctly mentioned the account details.
“I tried to register a complaint against the bank employees but the previous Zonal head told me that they will register a Police complaint against the accused employees, but the previous zonal head was transferred and my case remained pending,” he said.
The bank also ordered an enquiry confirmed to The Kashmiriyat by an employee who did not wish to be named, but Aijaz claimed that during the course of investigation the accused employees tried to bribe him.
“We will give you 2 lacs, do not show your face again,” he claims the bank employees having told him. But Aijaz hails from a poor family, “who will pay the rest of the overdue amount?” he asks. The overdue amount right now is 15 lacs, Aijaz said.
Aijaz told The Kashmiriyat that he would have filed a Police complaint but he was assured help time and again by the higher ups of the Jammu Kashmir Bank.
Zonal Head Fayaz Ahmad Siddiqui said that the matter has reached him and the bank is investigating the matter.
