The Kashmir valley is facing power crisis from up north to down south as winter chill continues to grow in intensity and people are up in arms against the Government.
Locals from several areas of North Kashmir including Lolab, Sopore, Ganderbal, Bandipora have held protests against the Government’s Power Development Department as power crisis have grown in the areas.
On 14 November hundreds of Sopore residents including local traders assembled at Iqbal Market of town and staged a protest demonstration over the prevailing power crisis.
The protesters also threatened to prolong the protests if the electricity is not restored in the area at the earliest.

Similarly in South Kashmir, the Shopian residents have called for a complete shutdown on 20 November against the ‘hide and seek’ of the electricity in various areas of the Southern Kashmir district.
Tral area of Pulwama on Wednesday observed a complete shutdown against the failure of the Department to provide electricity to the Tral Sub District.
“This is nothing now, the electricity also makes a Durbar Move, when the officials move to Jammu, the electricity too moves with them to Jammu and Kashmir is left exposed to bitter winter cold,” a resident of Tral told The Kashmiriyat.
The Awantipora area of Pulwama has shutdown on Thursday against the unscheduled power cuts in the area.
Similarly in Islamabad and Kulgam Districts the PDD Department has been providing electricity with frequent cuts and any schedule is hardly followed.
“we receive electricity less than 8 hours a day,” a Kulgam resident told The Kashmiriyat. The Government must understand that people pay taxes and pay separately for the electricity, they cannot take electricity as their luxury, he added.
