Pregnant woman allegedly dies of medical negligence at SKIMS

Staging protests, the family of a 25-year-old woman from Ganderbal district alleged the negligence of doctors at Kashmir’s Premier Medical Institute SKIMS led to the death of the woman.

The family members of Ulfat Jan (deceased), a resident of Wakoora area in Ganderbal said that Ulfat was admitted to the hospital with labour pain yesterday evening”Her condition was visibly deteriorating. We informed the doctors to check her, however, the doctors snapped at us constantly that she was fine. There was no doctor, all those who came to check Ulfat were junior residents,” a family member said.

Another family member stated that she was not given proper treatment which led to her death on Sunday morning.

An enquiry has been launched into the incident, as per the hospital hospital officials.

“An enquiry has been initiated and a committee has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee has been granted a deadline of five days to submit the report,” Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said.
