A 30-year-old pregnant woman, Nancy, wife of Showkat Ahmad Bhat and a resident of Srandoo Kulgam, tragically passed away at the District Hospital Kulgam on Tuesday, sparking serious allegations of medical negligence by her family.

Family members told The Kashmiriyat that Nancy was admitted to the hospital for delivery but alleged that the medical staff failed to provide timely and proper treatment, resulting in her untimely death. Her unborn child also could not be saved.

The incident has triggered grief and anger among relatives and residents in the area. Demanding a thorough and transparent probe, the bereaved family appealed to Jammu Kashmir Health Minister Sakina Masood to personally intervene and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. “We want justice. The matter must be properly investigated and the culprits brought to justice,” said a family member.

In response to the allegations, the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kulgam stated, “We will constitute a committee to investigate the matter thoroughly. If any lapses are found, strict action will be taken to ensure justice for the family.”

The incident has raised fresh concerns over healthcare practices in government hospitals, with locals urging authorities to improve medical infrastructure and accountability.
