The principal of a college in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar had resigned after facing backlash for asking students to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The notices by Rajnibala Gohil, the in-charge principal of Shreemati Narmadabai Chatrabhuj Gandhi Mahila College in Gujrat asking students to enroll themselves with the BJP went viral on social media after which the college administration said she had resigned.
Gohil asked the students to bring their passport-size photos and mobile phones to the college so that they could be enrolled as members of the Hindu nationalist party, Maktoob Media reported.
“Every girl student of the college is hereby notified that: (1) Every girl student of the college shall bring a passport-size photo of hers for her registration as a member of page committee of the BJP… (2) It is necessary for every girl student to carry her mobile phone to college for joining the (ongoing) member (enrolment) drive of the BJP,” read the notice.
“I came to know about the notice on Sunday evening. I went to the college this morning to discuss the issue with the principal in charge when she tendered her resignation. She told me that it was her moral duty to step down as principal after what had happened,” Indian Express quotes Dhirendra Vaishnav, executive director of Smt Rukshamanibahen Dipchand Gardi Bhavnagar Stree Kelavani Mandal, the Bhavnagar-registered charitable trust which runs the college, as saying.
