
Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Qadri also known as Peer e Tareeqat, left for heavenly abode on Friday morning in Anantnag township of South Kashmir.
Prominent for his role as the Zonal Educational Officer in Kokernag, he transformed the schooling system in the area, he was also a famous spiritual healer with thousands of followers spread throughout the Kashmir valley.
Jailed several times during his youth, he was a forefront campaigner for the plebiscite movement and later one of the general secretaries of Muslim United Front in 1987.
Having pursued his M.A in English from Aligarh Muslim University he was much revered among all socio-political and religious circles of the Kashmir valley.
He led annual commemorations of the annual Urs of Dastgeer Sahab, Makhdoom Sahab and the last prophet of Islam Muhammad (s.a.w) in the Islamabad township of South Kashmir.
He was the chairman of Idara Tehqiqat e Islami founded by slain Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Dr. Qazi Nisar, he also headed Bazm e Qadriya.
