As part of intensified efforts to crack down on militancy in Kashmir, police on Wednesday and Thursday attached properties belonging to individuals accused of having links with militant outfits in Sopore and Ganderbal districts.
In Sopore, police, in coordination with the local magistrate, attached properties worth lakhs of rupees belonging to two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants, Umar Mir and Bilal Mir, residents of Brath Kalan. Both had crossed over to Pakistan in 2017 and allegedly joined militant ranks.
A police official stated that the duo has been actively involved in spreading militancy across Jammu Kashmir, especially in North Kashmir. Officials said the action aims to dismantle the militant support ecosystem and send a strong message to those aiding and abetting such elements.
In a separate move, Ganderbal Police said they have attached immovable property, agricultural land measuring 09 Kanals and 07 Marlas worth approximately Rs 3.47 crore.
The land belongs to three individuals — Firdous Ahmad Wani, Mohammad Ramzan Bhat, and Mohammad Ayoub Ganie — all residents of Safapora area, who had allegedly exfiltrated to Pakistan for arms and ammunition training. The attachment was carried out under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), following a court order by the Additional Sessions Judge Ganderbal in connection with FIR No. 48/2009 of Police Station Kheerbawani.
Police said the actions reflect their firm stance against elements involved in activities deemed detrimental to public safety and national security, underscoring a zero-tolerance policy towards militancy.
