Tribal students stage protest in Jammu against Poonch killings

Several students on Monday staged a protest in Jammu against the alleged custodial killing of three civilians in the Poonch district on Jammu Kashmir.

A participant of the protest told The Kashmiriyat that the tribal students in Jammu organized a candle march condemning the killing of three ‘innocent tribals”.

The students demanding action and investigation against the accused army troopers. “We urge strict action against the accused to prevent recurrence of such incidents” a student said.

Last Thursday, militants ambushed the government forces in the Dera Ki Kali in the Poonch district leading to the killing of five army troopers and two others were injured.

The incident that triggered widespread condemnation was followed by some arrests in the surrounding areas, including Topi Peer, from where several youth were picked up by the government forces.

Three of those men who were picked up were later found dead, leading to protests in the valley and in Jammu, demanding punishment to the involved army men.
