After Youth Congress workers poured black oil and ink over Sachin Tendulkar’s cut-out in Kerala’s Kochi on Saturday, workers of the Swabhimani Shetkari Saghtana protested outside the cricketing legend’s house in Mumbai on Monday.
A poster in Marathi read: Sachin amchya shetkari bapasathi kadhi tweet karshil (Sachin when will you tweet for our farmer father?)
This comes in after the cricketer put out a tweet favouring the MEA’s statement on the farmers’ protest and the involvement of international celebrities and media.
International celebrities like Rihanna, Greta Thunberg among many others expressed their solidarity with the farmers’ protest following which the MEA released a detailed statement saying, “The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible,”
Soon after this, many Indian celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn among others put out similar tweets in support of the MEA’s statement.
Meanwhile Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday ordered a probe into the tweets done by celebrities like Bharat Ratnas Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar, Akshay Kumar, Saina Nehwal and others on the ongoing farmers’ protest.
Terming it a “serious” matter, Deshmukh ordered the Intelligence Department to go into the background of the tweets, many of which were similar in content and posted at the same time.
