The administration of SSM College of Engineering in Parihaspora, North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has alleged that the concerned sub-divisional and tehsil administration demolished the college structures without any due notice.

Protests rocked at SSM College of Engineering Parihaspora Pattan after civil administration along with Police carried out an anti-encroachment drive in college premises. The college administration alleged that the authorities did not inform them, neither did they send prior notice before the demolition drive in the college premises.

Vice-Chairperson SSM has said in a viral video, “We are just asking them to show us the orders under which they have demolished college structures.”

“We have approached SDM Pattan time and again for a year now, in order to demark the land but they did not come. Our faculty members were not allowed to come to the college premises via highway, they traveled on foot,” she added.

Talking to the media, Vice-chairperson Dilafroza Qazi, informed that yesterday at 04:30 p.m., they had received information about this drive. And that when they reached the spot and asked the officers to show the orders, the officers told them they had been directed by the financial commissioner.

“If you want to demolish this college, I request you to take over it. We will leave it and hand it over to you,” she further added.

District administration, Baramulla in its official press statement whose copy lies with The Kashmiriyat said, “Continuing the anti-encroachment drive which was started yesterday by Revenue and Police officials at village Divar Yakhmanpora Tehsil Singhpora Sub Division Pattan District Baramulla land measuring 19 Kanals under survey No. 1639 and 6 Kanals 4 Marlas under survey No. 787 were retrieved.”

“The encroachers have also constructed a building on encroached land and sublet that building to some other institution and were receiving rent from that institution. The encroachers were served notice vide No. TS/OQ/2020-21/719 dated 31-03-2021 for removal of encroachment on their own but the encroachers failed to remove the encroachment on their own due to which Revenue and Police officials were bound to remove the encroachment on spot under relevant provisions of law,” the statement further reads.

It’s pertinent to mention here that after carrying the anti-encroachment drive, the Tehsildar Pattan Sheikh Sahu-ud-din has been attached in the office of financial commissioner, revenue J&K, Srinagar with immediate effect as per order no 50-JK(Rev) of 2021 dated 02/08/2021. Tehsildar Kreeri will hold the additional charge of Tehsil Pattan and Singhpora.

The Kashmiriyat tried to contact the concerned Tehsildar, who carried out the demolition drive and also the Sub Divisional Magistrate of the area, but they did not respond.
