Protests in Jammu over man allegedly beaten to death by Police

A 27-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances after allegedly being beaten by police, leading to protests by his relatives and neighbors on Monday.

Shubam Sharma, a resident of Bantalab on Jammu’s outskirts, was reportedly playing cricket near his home when police raided the area on Sunday evening in search of drug traffickers.

Sharma’s family claims he was detained and severely beaten by the police before they left the scene.

Sharma was taken to the hospital but died shortly after. The family said his body is now at the hospital’s mortuary for a postmortem examination.

On Monday morning, protesters blocked the main road in Bantalab, demanding an investigation into Sharma’s death and justice for the victim.

Sharma’s younger sister, Shivani, stated, “He was the sole breadwinner for our family, working as an electrician…we want justice.”

Senior police and civil officials have been dispatched to the area to address the situation and assure the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted.
