Pulwama sports stadium, 31 other places in Kashmir renamed after deceased Policemen

The Jammu Kashmir administration has renamed several educational institutes, bridges and stadiums to the names of Government force personnel killed in the line of duty.

According a notification, accessed by The Kashmiriyat, the Manoj-Sinha-led admin on Monday ordered the renaming of several educational institutes, bridges and other public places in the valley.

Girls Middle School at Khoshipora in Anantnag has been renamed after Constable Rameez Raja Itoo, Constable who was killed in March 2021.

A graduate in Science, Rameez Raja had joined the Jammu Kashmir Police as his father Abdul Salam Itoo died five years ago while serving the Jammu Kashmir Police.

In March 2021, suspected Militants barged inside the house of a BJP leader in Srinagar and the alert sentry which included Rameez fired on the attackers who escaped from the spot, however, Rameez was injured in the attack and rushed to the SMHS hospital in Srinagar, he succumbed to his injuries there.

The Akura bridge in Anantnag has been renamed after Nisar Ahmad Wagay who was a Constable with Jammu Kashmir Police.

Government Primary School SK Payeen in Bandipora has been renamed after Abdul Kabir Pahloo, Constable No. 3528/S, as per the notification accessed by The Kashmiriyat

Pulwama’s Sports Stadium has been renamed after constable Gulzar Ahmed while the Playground along with National Highway in Keegam has been renamed after Khursheed Ahmed constable.

In Shopian, Government Primary School Chillipora has been renamed after Mohammad Yousuf Hajam, SGCT.

Upper School Tollihallan in Shopian has been renamed after Farooq Ahmad Khokhar, SGCT SGCT, No. 448/PL.

Similarly Government School Safanagri has been renamed after Abdul Aziz, SGCT No. 346/AP 8th BN.

In Shopian, Government Government School, Keegam has been renamed after Farooq Ahmad Yatoo, Constable, No. 4438/S.

The Government schools and other places of significance in Jammu Kashmir, as per a Government directive, started to be renamed in August 2021.

The Divisional Commissioner Jammu directed the Deputy Commissioners in the Jammu and Kashmir valley divisions to identify the government-run schools, which can be named after the soldiers killed.

So far hundreds of institutes/ public places have been renamed after the troopers killed during Anti- Militancy and other combat operations including those in wars. The List includes deceased Government force personnel from  Paramilitary, Army, and the Police.
