March 26

The Bellow area in south Kashmir Pulwama district is observing a complete shutdown on Tuesday on the death anniversary of a Local Militant, Shahbaz Ahmed Wani alias Rayees Kachroo.

Rayees was killed in an encounter with Government Forces in padgampora area of Awantipora in Pulwama on 26 March in  2017 along with his associate, Farooq Ahmed Hura of Nazneenpora in Shopian district.

Both Rayees and Farooq, who were in a Maruti car fired on the escorts of top ranked police officials who were returning from Awantipora.

Shops and other Business establishments in the area are shut, while traffic is off the roads, Locals told The Kashmiriyat.

Meanwhile people in large numbers are visiting the house and the grave of the slain to offer Fateh Khwani to the slain Hizb associate on his first anniversary.

Since their partition in 1947, both India and Pakistan have claimed their stake over Jammu Kashmir. The state comprises Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions, and has since remained the epicentre of innumerable political hiccups, with India and Pakistan having fought three wars over it.

The Region witnessed an eruption of Armed uprising in 1988, that saw a revival in 2016 after the killing of a famous Local Militant commander on July 08, that year.

Since then more than 500 Local boys have joined Militancy and most of them have been killed during encounter between Government Forces and the Armed Militants.
