Punjab leaders meet Kashmiri students assaulted at DBU

Several Punjab-based leaders met Kashmiri students who have been protesting against the administration of Desh Bhagat University (DBU) for the past few weeks.

Earlier The Kashmiriyat reported, that several students including Kashmiris allegedly assaulted at DBU. The students were assaulted during a protest against the University for illegaly transferring their admissions into another nursing college which lacks INC recognition.

Guramneet Singh Mangat, who is secretary of Progressive Farmers Front, also met the students. While reacting over alleged Police action against students, Singh has lashed out on Punjab government for failing to take action against the university.

“Reached @DBUIndia Mandi Gobindgarh where Kashmiri girls pursuing B.Sc Nursing were brutally Lathi-charged today by @PunjabPoliceInd on orders from @BhagwantMann. Since when does Govts. beat peacefully protesting students on behest of Private Universities,” he wrote on Tweet.

It further reads as, “A very heavy police deployment at the university gates. One student has a severe head injury with 15 stitches after the @PunjabPoliceInd jawans hit him on head. Rather than taking action against the university for fraud, @AAPPunjab has come out in full support of the university.”

Kashmiri students who spoke to The Kashmiriyat alleged that they were thrashed by the authorities. “Several students were injured,” a student said. Adding, “A Kashmiri male student received head injuries who was later shifted to the Hospital.”
