Ramban tunnel collapse: 9 dead bodies retrieved, rescue operation on

The dead bodies of nine labourers have been found by rescuers from the debris of an under-construction tunnel that collapsed near Khooni Nallah area of Ramban district, officials said on Saturday.

They said besides recovering the bodies of nine of the ten labourers trapped under the debris, rescuers have so far also rescued three labourers in injured condition and one of them has been admitted to GMT Jammu for advanced treatment, where his condition is stated to be stable.

Bodies are being shifted to district hospital Ramban besides that operation is going on to find out whether any other body is in the debris, an official told The Kashmiriyat.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Mohita Sharma told The Kashmiriyat that So far nine bodies have been recovered from the spot, and maybe one is left.

“Out of these 9 deceased, five were from West Bengal, one from Assam, two from Nepal, and two were local. FIR has been registered for negligence,” SSP Ramban said.

The TRaffic officials said that the traffic on the highway has not been affected by the rescue operations.

Pertinently around 10 PM on Thursday, the audit tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway near collapsed near Khooni Nallah, trapping around 10 workers of Sarla Company (private construction company) working inside the tunnel.
