Tulmulla Nallah, locally known as “Naagpav” in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal, which once used to be the main source of water for thousands of the people, is now slowly losing its sheen due to rampant pollution.
Locals while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that rampant pollution along the banks of this Nallah is posing a grave threat to its existence.
They alleged that due to rampant pollution, negligence of the concerned department and irresponsible approach by the people living alongside the Nallah have destroyed its very existence.
The Nallah originated from a spring at Lar area of the district, passes through Tulmullah village and joins the river Jhelum at Shadipora.
Locals said that around a decade ago, its waters used to be crystal clear and it used to be the main source of water to thousands of the people, however, due to rampant pollution and irresponsible approach, its slowly lost its sheen.
“Despite recent drives launched by the district administration to preserve and clean water bodies across the district this stream has been left unattended,” they said, adding that immediate dredging and cleaning the waste along side its banks can still help save the water body.
They appealed to the local administration to take immediate necessary steps so that this water body can be restored to its pristine glory—(KNO)
