Locals from the different hamlets of Hajin in Sonawari Tehsil of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district have alleged that most of the ration depots have been without ration supply for the past two weeks.
The inhabitants alleged that there is an acute shortage of ration and they are being forced to procure the same from open markets on exorbitant rates.
Locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that even sugar and flour are unavailable at the ration depots.
“People from Paribal, Khos Mohalla, Bangar Mohalla, and Hajin Ghat Syed Mohalla have been suffering in the wake of the shortage of ration. The department has failed to address the issue,” locals said.
Locals added that they have been left with no option but to hit the road and protest to attract the attention of the concerned department.
They sought the intervention of the Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department. [KNT]
