Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took aim at the opposition parties, accusing them of using hooliganism to control Parliament for their own political gain, despite being rejected by the public multiple times, ANI reported.
Speaking to the media before the commencement of Parliament proceedings, Modi stated that the opposition’s actions were obstructing the smooth functioning of the Parliament, undermining democratic traditions.
“Their main objective seems to be hindering Parliament’s progress rather than contributing to it,” said Modi.
He added that while Parliament sessions should be marked by healthy discussions, some opposition members are trying to dominate the proceedings through disruptive tactics.
Referring to the upcoming 75th anniversary of India’s Constitution, Modi highlighted the importance of respecting democratic values and ensuring a respectful environment in Parliament.
He expressed hope that the Winter Session would allow new members to contribute fresh ideas and energy for India’s growth.
“India is now receiving unprecedented global attention, and our actions should reflect the responsibility we carry,” he said.
The Parliament session will discuss several key bills, including the Waqf Act (Amendment) Bill and the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill. The session will run until December 20, with a break on November 26 for Constitution Day.
PM Modi also remarked on the accountability of elected representatives, urging them to live up to the expectations of the people.
He suggested that the continuous rejection of certain political figures by the public should serve as a reminder for those individuals to respect the sentiments of democracy.
