Rescue operation launched as snow avalanches hit Ganderbal, body of labourer recovered

The Body of a labourer has been recovered who was buried under the debris after an avalanche hit Srabal area of Ganderbal district Thursday morning even as rescues operation was going om.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the labourer working at Mega Tunnel Project was buried under the debris after an avalanche hit the area today morning.

He said his body was recovered following a rescue operation by local police, Army, SDRF, Beacon and Tunnel project team.

The official added search and rescue operation is still going on in the area.

Meanwhile, chief medical officer Ganderbal Dr Afroza Shah confirmed to KNO that a body has been recovered from the debris and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical formalities.

Earlier, officials said the area was closed for the time being as a precautionary measure and the residents were advised to stay indoors and not to venture out unnecessarily—(KNO)
