All the Gurudwara Prabandhak Sikh committees of Kashmir on Friday demanded two seats for the community in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
Addressing a press conference here, United Kashmiri Sikh Progressive Forum, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that reserving two seats for Kashmiri Pandits is a welcome step, but ignoring the Sikhs is an injustice to the community.
“We have met the Home Minister four times and he gave us assurances, but we feel it is an injustice to us,” the forum said. “Kashmiri Sikh community has always been at the forefront in extending all kinds of help and assistance, but we fail to understand why we are not being recognized.”
“The government should think about Kashmiri non-migrant Sikhs and should give us a reservation,” the UKSPF said, adding, “We demand two seats for Sikh community in the J&K Assembly.”—(KNO)
