The residents of Sehipora, Chappergund and other adjoining areas in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir are up in arms against the Power Development Corporation (PDC) for the dilapidated conditions of roads.

Despite the passing of eight Years years, work on Chappergund to Sehipora road in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has not been completed yet, Locals aid while blaming Power Development Corporation (PDC) of sheer apathy.

Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said, “The work on the road was taken by Power Development Corporation (PDC) eight years ago for widening and up-gradation. This road is part of the 93 MW Ganderbal power project. The road approaches proposed water tunnel for the power project and the authorities are playing hide and seek with us.”

Local residents also said the contractors are going slow with the work. The roads dug up for work are left open, and despite repeated appeals and complaints by residents, the corporation authorities have not taken steps to cover the roads for the safety and convenience of the public.

The locals said due to the pathetic condition of the road, the commuters and pedestrians are facing huge inconvenience every day.

They further told The Kashmiriyat, “Due to rough of the road, many people have suffered injuries. During rains, the road turns slippery, which poses accident risk.”

When The Kashmiriyat contacted Power Development Corporation (PDC) Technical Officer Shabir Ahmed Bhat he said, “Due to Covid 19 and certain reasons we faced problems to complete work on this road. We have started work on the road and this time we shall be completed at a fast pace. Within few months work on the road will be completed.”
