The residents of Nehru Pora and its adjoining areas in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, on Friday, staged a protest, against the Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure to supply smooth electricity.

The protesters blocked the road at the main town and shouted anti-PDD slogans, due to which the flow of traffic was affected.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the residents said that the entire Nehru Pora area has been under darkness for the past several weeks, as the PDD has failed to provide power as per schedule.

“In absence of proper power supply, the winter has made our lives miserable. Our children are being forced to study under the candlelight,” said one of the protestors.

Later, after the assurances from the ADC Sopore, the protestors dispersed peacefully.

The residents appealed to the authorities to immediately provide scheduled power supply, so that they do not face any more difficulties during the severe winter.
